Description

In this lesson Ss learn about the verb pattern and vocabulary(adjectives e.g. obsessed, desperate,hypocritical).I will start the lesson asking Ss to use these verbs( try- need- suggest- realise...) talking about paparazzi .Then I will clarify the verb pattern through the exercise( complete the following sentences about photographing celebrities). After that I will clarify form through (Use the verbs from Exercise 1 to complete the table of verb patterns).This followed by a controlled practice where students cross out the verb that is not possible. finally there is a free practice (who do you think made each ststement: apaparazzo or a celebrity?Compare your ideas with a partner.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks Ss to use these following verbs talking about paparazzi and celebrity and write some sentences (agrees- asked- enjoy- explained- tell) . Ask Ss to talk in pairs about paparazzi and celebrity. Ss work in pairs and discuss. Write their sentences on the board for latter to be used.

Exposure and highlight (2-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T asks Ss to complete the following sentences about photographing celebrities.Use the verbs in the box. T demonstraite with Ss by answering the first sentence. T ask Ss finish and answering all the sentences. T monitor and helps Ss. Ss pair work and check together . T gets feedback from WC.

Clarification of Language Focaus (3-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T explains the diffrent structure s of diffrent verbs. . Verb+-ing form T explains verb pattern of enjoyment(enjoy, like ,do not like ,love ,hate ,can not stand ,mind ,do not mind ,avoid, deny,fancy,involve,miss,understand) . T gives example about verb of enjoyment:e.g. I love playing tennis ,but I do not really like watching it. T asks Ss to form sentences using these verbs. Verb+to-infinitive T explains the form of the verb pattern like( need, promise, try, want, agree, arrange, decide, forget, learn, manage, prepare, start) T gives example about this verb pattern:e.g. Oh,no ! I forget to lock my car. T asks Ss to form sentences using these verbs. Ss check in pairs their answers. Verb+that T explains the form of the verb pattern (realise,say, suggest ,think, explain ,believe, feel, know, see, show). T gives example about this verb pattern :e.g.I know that he is an honest person and I feel that he is telling the truth. T asks Ss to form sentences using these verbs. Ss check in pairs their answers. Verb+somebody+(not) to -infinitive T explains of the verb pattern like(ask, tell, warn, allow, force, invite, persuade, remind) T gives example about this pattern verb :e.g. I finally persuade Tim not to go to Australia. T asks Ss to form sentences using these verbs . Ss check in pairs their answers. verb+somebody+that T explains of the verb pattern like(warn, tell, advise, promise, remind, show) T gives example about this verb pattern: e.g. Kate reminded me that I owe her 50 pounds. T asks Ss to form sentences using these verbs. Ss check in pairs their answers.

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Chest the hand out and tell the Ss to read the sentences and choose the two correct verbs ( two of verbs are correct and one is not). Ss work individually to answer the exercise and then they peer-check the answers together. Check with the whole class to see if there any problems.

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T asks Ss to write 2 sentences of each of the form of verb pattern (v.+ing, v+to inf. , v+that , v+SB+to+inf. , v+SB+that.

Free Practice (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T asks who do you think made each statement: apaparazzo or a celebrity? T asks to compare ideas with a partner.
