Description

in this page students will face social interaction situations and eventually, they will learn more about how to react and what kind of language and register they should use regarding different situations. The aim is speaking and the students are expected to produce some target language in the end, not absolutely correct though.

Materials

Abc gap fill hand outs, pictures

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of social interactions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a PW/GW conversation in the context of the social interactions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

after a brief greetings (including reminding who I am) I will set the context by introducing myself as a bellboy in a hotel, for doing so I will attach my covered picture in the form of a bellboy, I will ask them to figure out who he is. (Discovery learning) I will introduce my job with their help.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will ask a volunteer to come to me to do a "role-play" with me about hotel services and when they face the "needed" language I will help their prior knowledge or introduce the new words. (not all of them). Afterwards, I will ask them to stay in three different groups (the grouping technique will be using famous football teams and their logos.) each group will hold 2 pictures of the books conversations. There will be white papers provided on the walls with numbers.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Here in, I will ask each team to listen to the audio and match the pictures to the correct numbers, after that while they are staying where they have attached their photos, they start practicing the conversations from their memory. Afterwards, I will hand in the text pieces and ask them to match them to the correct pictures, again without listening. the last part is to fill in the blanks in their own groups and give the feedback.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Mechanical (controlled) practice: I will give them the excerpts from work book, and ask them to fill in the blanks to make sure that correct language has been understood Freer practice: I will model a situation where I am a hotel receptionist and ask a person from each team to have a talk with me, I will introduce Iran, show them the souvenir picture so that they ask where they can buy it and speak a little Farsi so that they practice "I don`t understand" If-time : I ask them to practice the same in their teams

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

the error correction is preferred to be delayed the pronunciation would be corrected on the spot (elicit) every stage will have a feedback part eventually :))
