To provide fluency speaking practice in conversation and decision making in the context of green issues

To provide clarification of words associated with green issues in the context of eco-awareness
Procedure (40-45 minutes)
Students watch a short video on Ecology and then work in pairs to work out the meaning of "Eco guilt". 1) Show the greenpeace video. 2) Show the handout and highlight the title "How Eco-guilty are you?" 3) Instruct them to read the introduction and discuss with their partner. 4) Nominate students to explain their understanding of the phrase.
Students read a self evaluation quiz to decide of they are eco-friendly. 1) Show quiz on OHP - elicit what it is and what it's for from students 2) Instruct students to do quiz individually and calculate results 3) Nominate students for results 4) Language check (using picture clues)
Students use the quiz as a springboard to identify how eco-friendly their partner is. 1) Change partners 2) Instruct students to Use questions to find out the score of their partner (model one question) First one student then the other 3) Monitor and collate feedback 4) Use board work to give feedback/reformulate 5) Nominate students to tell class who is really guilty.
Students evaluate different ways of helping to protect the environment through discussion. 1) Lead in question - "what's the best way to save our planet?" elicit answers from the class. 2) Show the handout and issue instructions: - look at the methods of saving the planet - can you think of your own ideas? - discuss the ideas - are they good, are they bad? - choose the two best ideas and discuss why? 3) Monitor for feedback 4) Nominate pairs to share their ideas with the class
Students work to identify groups of lexis relating to environmental concerns. 1) Show the handout 2) students need to place the correct vocabulary in the correct lexical group 3) Students make a promise to save the earth and write it on the board e.g. I promise to stop throwing my cigarette butts on the floor
