To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice from a recording that includes vocabulary in the context of people's lives

To present the context of the lesson through reading about people's lives
Procedure (39-54 minutes)
-Have projection ready -Remind ss that in the previous lessons they learned how to talk about their lives (i.e. I was born in, I studied, I got married. etc.) -Tell ss that you grandfather changed his town. He moved from Gaziantep to Istanbul and he lives in Istanbul now. Your uncle changed his country. He moved from Turkey to Switzerland. He lives in Switzerland now. -Ask ss if anyone in their family moved to a different town or country? Where do they live now? -Have WCFB
-Show the ss the article -Tell them to read the article and choose the correct answer. They have one minute. -Give them HOs. -Have them check their answers in pairs -WCFB -Project the matching exercise for vocabulary -Explain them to match the pictures with the correct sentences -Demonstrate -Give them HOs. -Have them check their answers in pairs -Invite them to the WB to do the matching -Correct them if necessary -Model and drill the pronunciation chorally
-Project the questions about the audio track. -Tell ss to listen the recording and answer the questions -Play the track 2.62 -Have the ss check their answers with a partner -Give WCFB -Divide the ss into three groups -Demonstrate what "order" means -Project the sentences about the lives of Cheng and Donna -Ask students to put the cut-ups in order as a group -Demonstrate -Give them the cut-ups -Tell ss to check other groups' order of the cut-ups -If there is a group that has the correct order, have ss compare with theirs -If not, then show the correct version by arranging one of the group's cut-ups
-Tell ss to listen to the recording and answer the questions -Give them the HOs -Play the track 2.62 - (If they cannot understand the recording, read the tapescript) -Have them check their answers with a partner -Give them the tapescript for the FB
-Write about yourself using some of the expressions that is used in the listening -Tell ss to write about themselves like you did -Give them HOs -Tell ss that they are in a party. They will stand up, mingle around, meet someone and introduce themselves to one another using the sentences they wrote. -Monitor
