To provide review and practice of all forms of the passive voice in the context of news about crimes.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide specific information listening practice using a text about burglary in the context of news about crimes.

To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in giving impersonal information in the context of news about crimes.
Procedure (32-47 minutes)
SS will hear a 'breaking news' sound track. They'll comment when they hear it and how they feel when hearing it.
SS get test1 HO. SS choose the right form of the verb according to a news article. T monitors (how well are the SS doing) In pairs, SS compare their answers FB with the article projected on the WB,
Depending on test1 results, SS get a HO (teach or teach1) The teach HO has a language discovery task and an extra exercise in case SS do badly in test1. The teach1 HO includes just the language discovery task. Language discovery task: SS listen to a crime story (1:45) and answer some questions. SS compare the answers with a partner. WC FB SS listen again and complete extracts with the TL. SS work in trios to analyse the extracts meaning and form. WC FB
SS get either test2 or test2.1 according to how well they did in the Teach stage. In test2, SS have to use the correct form of the passive to complete 11 sentences and rephrase 5 sentences to make them more formal. In test2.1, SS just do the first task explained above. SS solve the test by themselves. SS check their answers in pairs. T monitors during all the process for delayed FB SS get the answer keys.
SS work in groups of 4. SS get a news headline. SS create the news story for the headline integrating the TL. SS take some notes to help them remember the story. Each group chooses a representative to report the news WC. SS take some notes of the news' reports. SS compare their notes. Delayed FB is given.
