Colours and Clothes Lesson
Beginner A1 level

Description

In this lesson ss will have a chance to practise positive, negative and question forms of present continuous. They will also improve their productive skills through speaking and writing in the context of 'colours and clothes'.

Main Aims

  • To be able to talk about clothes, colours and current actions by using present continuous.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To improve productive skills (writing and speaking) through the context of 'colours and clothes'.

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To spark interest on the topic

-Ask ss to describe the clothes I am wearing. Can you please tell me what am I wearing? -Point to each clothe and try to elicit from ss.

Stage 1 (Controlled Practice) (20-22 minutes) • To elicit, clarify and practise TL

- Project a photo of people sitting in a cafe on the WB. - Ask ss to read the names on the photo. - Show the HO and inform ss that they'll fill in the blanks with clothes and colours of the people from the photo. - Have them check with their partners after they finish. - Nominate 6 ss to come to the board and fill in the blanks. - Correct errors after they're seated by asking the WC feedback. - Ss will do the second exer. with their partners. - Seven of them will take the answers from the fellow teachers and stick them on the WB. - Write 3 sentences on the board. Rick is talking on the phone. Paul isn’t talking on the phone. What is Kate doing? - Elicit the formula and drill.

Stage 2 (Semi-Controlled Practice) (13-15 minutes) • To practise TL further.

- Show ss the next HO. Ss will write one negative (based on the differences between two pictures) and one positive sentence (either about clothes or actions) for each subject. - Do the first one as an example. The children aren't playing football. The children are sitting./ The children are wearing shorts. - When they finish they will mingle and read their sentences to each other. - Nominate ss to read their sentences out loud.

Stage 3 (Freer Practice) (5-7 minutes) • To develop productive skills by practising asking and answering questions.

- Teach the meaning of 'mime' to ss - Devide them into A and B groups. - Write two sentences on the board. What are you wearing? What are you doing? - Ss will mime an action and their partners will try to guess it. -They will take turns to ask (A) and answer (B) those two questions. -Nominate a pair to act out for the WC.
