To enable ss to improve their listening skills in the context of a wedding ceremony.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To enable Ss to use their reading receptive skill for providing them with some knowledge before they encounter with listening activities based on the context.
-
To enable ss to improve their productive skill by writing a paragraph, based on the information they got by using their receptive skills they improved through the lesson.
Procedure (23-32 minutes)
- Greet the class and meet new Ss. - Ask ss whether they like birthdays. - Ask ss if they think it is a special/important day for them. - Ask the other special days for them. Anniversaries & new year etc. - Elicit: These are "special occasions"
Providing ss with the knowledge of lexis that they might find difficult which will be used through the class. - Show some pictures in the presentation I prepared and ask questions to highlight the vocabulary. -What do you see in this picture? -What is the special occasion? -What are they doing? Later, quickly give the instructions for the matching activity. Ss do the activity and they PC, later WCFB.
-Give Instructions to the WC and hand out the text. -Ss needs to skim the text and answer the question: "What special celebration does Francesco go to?" (Write on the board) -Ss will work individually and discuss their answers with their peers. Later they will report to the class.
- Tell Ss that they will watch and listen the special occasion that they read about. - Refer back to the activity in the vocabulary and tell Ss to write down the phrases they hear in the activity. - Ask ICQs : Are you listening or reading? Listening. When you listen, are you practicing the phrases, or writing the phrases? Writing.
-Give the instructions for the activity. -ICQs : Are you answering the questions? No Are you writing if the sentences are true or false? Yes.
-Give instructions, remind them the vocabulary if it is necessary. -ICQs. Do demo if it is necessary. Are you writing True or False in the blanks? No. Are you filling the blanks with the words you listen/hear? Yes.
-Ss need to write three sentences of their memory about a special occasion. Narrow down the topics if necessary. Tell the Ss that they should write about their last birthday or their wedding day. -Provide Ss with papers. -Monitor the Ss from behind and try to see their paragraph. Don't interfere them but be there if they have questions. - Ss will first share their memories with their pairs quickly and later they will report back to WC.
Since this is a Listening and Writing Skills based class, mostly focus on spelling mistakes. If you have time you may focus on the errors they made while they were reporting back in the class.
