Procedure (29-43 minutes)
We will start with talking about opening and closing times of our city and also about opening and closing times of the students' favorite shops or places.
Focus the students' attention on the pictures and give the students time to take in what is happening in them. First ask students to read the conversation then play the recording for them to listen and ask them to match conversations with the pictures. I may need to play the recording more than once. Ask students to check answers in pairs then check answers with the class. At last I' ll ask the students what the three conversations have in common(they are people asking about the opening and closing times of shops).
I 'll focus the student attention on the example and explain that the students have to rewrite the phrases correctly by inserting the words in brackets in the right place. I 'll do the second one with the whole class to make sure that they understand what to do. I'll ask students to work on their own to complete the exercise. I'll ask them to check their answers in pairs before playing the recording for them to check their answers. Play the recording again for the students to repeat the phrase after the speaker.
I'll clarify that these question: what time do you open ? what time do you close ? are used when asking about opening and closing times . I'll explain that the form of the question is : what time + helping verb +subject + verb ? I'll clarify the pronunciation of theses words: open - close - what time.
I'll ask students to work in pairs and practice the conversation in exercise 1, taking in turns to play each role. In exercise 4 I'll demonstrate the activity by asking a student the questions at the bottom of the page. Then I'll put the students in pairs and ask them to take turns asking and answering about the opening and closing times of the places in the box. While they are doing the exercise , I'll go around monitor and give help.I'll ask students to perform their conversation for the rest of the class and encourage them to make eye contact with each other when they are talking.
