To introduce students to and give practice in free time vocabulary in the context of typical friends
Subsidiary Aims

To give students practice in listening for gist, specific information and detail. To give students semi-controlled speaking practice and the opportunity to practice simple present.
Procedure (47-44 minutes)
Draw the diagram on the board: "My friends." Ask students to copy the diagram. Illustrate the task. "This is Erdem. I play football with Erdem." "This is Irem. I go to dancing with Irem. She likes music." Put Ss in pairs to talk about their friends. Monitor. Take FB. Nominate three or four students.
Elicit key words using flashcards. Elicit the vocabulary with word cards. Drill the pronunciation chorally.
Show Ss HO ex1. Put Ss into small groups. Tell Ss to match the phrases on the HO with the photos on the wall. "You have 2 minutes." Take FB. w/c Write correct answers on the w/b forming sentences: A."They go shopping", D."She studies alone." Model and drill pronunciation. Concept check "alone". Elicit from Ss.
Show Ss HO ex2. Check Ss understood the task. Model the activity if necessary. Put Ss in pairs. Ss answer the questions. Approximately 4 minutes. Take w/c FB.
Tell Ss to read the text quickly for 2 minutes. Ss peer check their anwers. Elicit w/c feedback. "What is the text about?. "It is about things men and women do with their friends and how they are different." Concept check if necessary. "Are men and women the same in what they do?" "Are they different?" Ask students whether they agree or disagree?
Tell Ss they will listen to an interview. Show the HO Listening ex2. Check Ss understood. Visualize it on the board. Ss peer check their answers. Minotor. See if there is a commonly missed word. Take w/c feedback.
Tell Ss they will listen to the same interview. Show Ss the HO ex.3. Model the activity repeating the already answered questions. Check understanding. "Are you going to write Yes or No?" "-No" "M, W, or both?" -"Yes" Tell them to read the statements. Play the interview. Ss pair check. Take w/c FB.
