To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using an audio about introduction to a tv game show, What's the word? in the context of what's the word?
-
To provide clarification, review and practice of new vocabular in the context of what's the word? and 900 new words in 3 months
Procedure (38-47 minutes)
-Greet The Ss to the class -display a photo of tweeter's symbol on OHP -Ask the Ss who uses tweeter here? -Ask "do you know the meaning of the word tweeter and its origin" -Ask students "do you know how many new words has created in 3 months -Ask students how many ways words are created, list their answers on the board
-Instruct the Ss to read the text "900 new words in 3 months" from SB page 25 quickly -Give the Ss HO of the above reading -Pair them and ask them to explain to their partners what they have learned from the text -Ask the Ss how many ways does it mention of creating new words? What are they?(Activity 5 a. SB page 25) -Give the Ss HO of the activity 5 b, SB page 25. Instruct the Ss to complete it, then they must compare their answers in pairs -Display the slide of the above activity and nominate S to come and write the correct answer (feedback) -Students might have problems with pronunciation of vocabulary in activity 5c SB page 25. Drill some of them e.g. wi=fi, google, emoticon -Display the activity 5c SB page 25 on OHP and instruct the Ss to explain the meaning of those words to their partner, using the text
-Display pictures of crosswords and scrabble, ask the Ss if they know these games -Instruct the Ss to listen to an audio file Play audio file 2-2 from SB page 24- -Play the audio 2-2 from SB page 24 -Pair Ss and instruct them to explain how do you play the game? (What's the word? from the above audio file) -Instruct the Ss to listen to the audio 2-3 from SB page 24 and complete activity 1c from SB page 24. Pause after each dialogue if necessary
-Give the Ss scrabble letters -In groups, they have to come up with at least 3 words (4-5 minutes) -each group should choose a speaker -the speaker should come to the front and try to explain at least one of the words to WC. Other groups should guess the word. A point will be given to the group if the other groups could guess the word right -The winner is the group with the highest points
