Description

In this lesson students will practice reading, speaking as well as reviewing some lexis and maybe their listening skill as well.. It will start with a warmer as the students will watch a video about different types of parties and discuss it then a pre reading activity and while reading 1 and 2, they will touch on some vocabs and then they will practice speaking with a freer practice about the parties that they've thrown

Abc Teacher made video about different types of parties
Abc New inside out intermediate handouts

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about How to throw the perfect party in the context of Parties and celebrations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of Parties in the context of Parties and celebrations
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T gives Ss a handout with the names of 6 types of parties, ss watch a video and match the number of party in the video to it's name, ss check together and share their opinion about when and why people have each type of party and check with T

Pre-Reading/Listening (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss write about the elements which makes a party successful in their opinion, ss check together

While-Reading/Listening #1 (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss read the text for gist and see if the things they've guessed were mentioned

While-Reading/Listening #2 (3-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss read the text for the second time more thoroughly and underline any difficult words.. T asks other Ss what in their opinion this word means and elicit from different Ss elaborations , T drills the new word one at a time before writing it on the board.

Post-Reading Vocab practice (2-3 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss fill in the gabs of a provided post reading vocab practice, ss check with each other and then with T

Post reading freer practice (2-3 minutes) • For the students to practice their speaking skills applying what they've learnt

T will ask students to tell each other about a party they've thrown or participated in before. Ss will discuss in group
