Subsidiary Aims
-
To practice/consolidate work done on questions. To provide Ss practice in speaking for fluency.
Procedure (41-54 minutes)
Remind Ss the picture from the previous lesson. Ask if they can remember what it showed. Ss work in pairs and discuss: 'Have you ever been for a job interview?' 'What kind of questions did they ask?' 'Did you get the job?'
Predict unfamiliar words from the listening script on p15-16 of teachers book and quickly pre-teach a few of these items to Ss eg 'reincarnated, flustered, kick a dog, turn it down, fond of'
Hand out the gap fill handout to work in pairs. Demo the first listening activity to ensure Ss understand the task. Have Ss listen and complete the questions. Feedback: have the answers posted on the board.
Again demo the activity first and have Ss work alone - peer check - feedback. Feedback: Nominate each pair to provide one answer. Write the answers on the board.
Listening various interviews provide a basic model for this speaking activity. The have also covered relevant vocabulary. Nominate Ss A and B. Seating should be face to face at interview stations. Demo the activity with student A, elicit what happens after student A has interviewed (Student B now interviews) Student A will use p104, Student B will use p108 to interview each other. Feedback. Possible activity: If time allows, Ss may write 2-3 interview questions of their own and ask their peer. Demo then peer work then whole class.
