Procedure (42-51 minutes)
Students will see 5 photos of a station, cinema, airport, restaurant and cafe. The warmer will be about 5 different pictures. They have to describe them. After that, there will be an audio conversation and they have to match the pictures with the conversations.
The teacher will have a memory game with students so they can recall as many places as possible. The teacher will show one photo and give students 30 seconds to memorize the things in the photo. After 30 seconds, the teacher will elicit answers from students and write the answers on the board. This will help students be familiar with the target words and how to use them in context at later stages. Two slides will be used and useful words like (park, mosque, church, bike, etc) will be written.
The teacher will show students a photo of ONE mosque and a photo of THREE schools. The teacher will show the difference between singular and plural nouns indirectly and then show them the rule. Followed by this, with the whole class the teacher will go over some sentences with words missing to make sure that they have understood the concept. Students will get HO 2a first, after they are finished they will get HO 2b
The teacher will distribute worksheets about (there is, there are). Students will be asked to do it individually and once they are done, they will double check their answers with their classmates. Finally, the teacher can go over the answers with the whole class. This way, students will get immediate feedback from their friends and the teacher afterwards.
The teacher tells students about where she lives and gives an example about things in her neighbourhood. By using personification, students can relate better. Later, students will be given time to prepare speaking about their street and share it with the group members. The teacher will go around and encourage students to speak as much as possible.
The teacher will talk about her favorite place in Istanbul and ask students to write about their favorite place. In groups of three, students describe their favorite restaurant, bar, area in Turkey. The teacher will monitor students to make sure they are doing the task. Hand Out 3 will be given to support their ideas.
