Procedure (36-46 minutes)
Review use and used to with students to activate schemata. I want them to think about moving and having to get used to new things etc. When we move, get a new job what kinds of things change in our habits? Have them discuss with a partner what changed when you moved out. For you and your parents. Or if you got a new job, what changed? Demo: I used to work in an office and now I work in a school. My mom used to cook for me but now I cook for myself.
Pass out test and give students 5-7 minutes to complete. Have them check answers with a partner. Be sure to monitor so you can sense weakness(es) in the target language.
Go through answers on the PP. Skip quickly through the first few, as they are mostly review and focus on the "be used to" and "get used to" Be sure to use correct pron of used to. Drill
Break students up into groups of 4 after the PP FB session, elicit the proper form of the sentence for "used to" by referring back to PP slide 13. SUBJECT + (TO BE) + USED TO + OBJECT(noun or gerund) Demo the activity, instruct them to construct sentences from the supplied list and then HO the list. Give them a few minutes and then have each group come and write a few on the board. FB, make any corrections and drill with correct pron.
Discuss the next handout. Pair students up into A's and B's. Explain how there are two sentences, have discuss what tense the response is. Demo with PP slides 19 and 20 Instruct them to fold in half and decide on the rest of the tenses. PP the answers slide 21-30 Now have them go back to work with their partners to complete the other side of the HO. Show how these sentences have the tense written out and you want them to write out their own response. Once complete, have them practice and then share with the group next to them for feedback.
