Procedure (38-48 minutes)
T shows pictures of different types of maps. Sts guess what kind of map it is. T shows pictures a few times in different order for sts to memorize and to practice pronunciation.
T uses OHP to show a large number of words from Vocabulary exercises 1 and 2 all over the WB in a mixed-up order. T gives one well known example. Sts need to find other pairs and match them on the WB. T monitors and heps where needed.
T shows picture of the map "South is up" Sts look at the map and discuss in what way the map is different from a traditional world map. They work in pairs. 1 minute!
T tells sts that they are going to listen two friends talking about the map. Sts need to match the magnified areas to the list of reasons why they have been highlighted. Sts work in pairs or groups of 3 (depends on how many sts attend the class). In feedback T shows answers on OHP. T elicits and clarifies any vocabulary if needed.
Sts listen to the recording again and choose the correct answers. They compare the answers in groups before checking with the class. T gives answers using OHP.
Sts discuss the questions from the exercise 4. They work in groups. T sets time limit 3 minutes. T monitors.
If there is still time, T asks sts to do exercises 1 and 1 from Vocabulary section. T monitors and provides feedback.
