Description

In this lesson students will practice their listening and speaking skills to talk about the countries they would like to visit.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson ss will have practised free speaking and listening for specific information in the context of describing the countries they would like to visit.

Subsidiary Aims

  • 1. to practice new vocabulary words that describe places. 2. to practice expressiond for recommending places and expressions for responding to these recommendations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the students a map for Australia. Ask them about the name of the continent. Divide them into Pairs and ask them to discuss what they know about Australia. Then discuss their ideas with the whole group.

Exposure (15-15 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Pre-teach some vocabulary words that might block their understanding while they are listening to the track. Give them a matching activity. They have to make each word with its definition. Drill the words, then discuss the form of each word. Give them a listening task about the different things people can do in the different cities of Australia. They have to check their answers in pairs then show the answers on the screen.

Useful Language (5-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Put the colored flash cards on the four walls of the room. Divide the students into three groups. Provide every group with a number of slip papers and ask them to stick each sentence to the expression or the category it belongs too. Then discuss them together

Productive Task(s) (15-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ask the students to think of a country they would like to visit. They can make notes. Divide them into pairs and ask them to discuss their ideas. The T monitors.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Discuss the ideas they mentioned in the free practice. Then write some of the mistakes on the board. Let them find out where the mistakes are.
