Procedure (27-40 minutes)
T writes down 'healthy lifestyle' in a circle on the board and elicits a few examples. T then dirstributes the habit cards and ask SS to arrange them under the signs ✗ and ✓ on the board. Focus on the old man's photo in the book, refer to his action (martial arts) and elicit ideas from the class about his age, health and nationality. Get ss to read the 1st paragraph individually bearing in mind the highlighted words. Draw Ss attention to the chart. Ask students to arrange them into the chart in pairs. SS then check theirs answers in groups. Present the answer key on the projector.
CCQ the adverbs of frequeny: Does he walk 2 days a week? Does he feel stress? Does he get ill a lot? Drill to make sure students can pronounce them correctly. For instance, always /ˈɔːlweɪz/ usually /ˈjuːʒuəli/ sometimes /ˈsʌmtaɪmz/ never /ˈnevə(r)/ Draw the cline on the other half of the board with it's percentages. Dvide the SS into pairs and ask them to put the adverbs of frequencies where they belong. Ask for peer correction
Write these 2 sentences on the board: "She never gets up late" and "She is never late". Elicit the differences from SS. Refer back to the portrayed cards on the board and ask the SS to form sentences. Demonstrate the first one as an example. Present the question "How often do you...?" then ask SS to practice freely asking each other 2 questions about the same set of cards.
Ellict the Ss' answers by asking multiple CCQs to deduce meanings. 1) " Kushari is a popular food in Egypt" CCQ: Does it mean nobody likes it ? 2) "Take your time" CCQ: Does it mean quickly or slowly? 3) "Stay at home" CCQ: Does it mean go out? 4) "Unusual" CCQ: Does it happen a lot? 5) sunset CCQ: Is the sun rising up or going down?
Show the Ss the segmented paragraphs on the walls. Dvide the class into 3 groups. Limit the time for 2 minutes. Ask the Ss to read the text quickly and match the subtitles with their paragraphs. Present the Answer key by the projector
