To give Ss practice in the integrated skills of reading for gist, and speaking fluently in the context of worst case scenarios.
Subsidiary Aims

To introduced related vocabulary.
Procedure (37-53 minutes)
Divide Ss into groups. They will be asked to solve a murder mystery riddle. Hang pictures on the WB. Ask Ss what do they think about the pictures. Elicit related vocabulary.
HO the titles (with blue-tack) to Ss one by one and ask them to match titles with pictures. HO pre-reading questions, ex.1 a-b Ss speak in pairs (5'). Monitor Ss and help for vocabulary if necessary. Ask Ss for FB WB.
Same pairs, ask Ss to complete ex. 2 and fulfil list for each situation on pre-reading questions. HO Reading text, ask Ss to check their lists on the text (2'). How many did you get the same?
HO comprehension. Regroup Ss in different pairs. Give Ss time to read the text, they can help their partner if necessary. Monitoring and help Ss. Elicit the vocabulary.
Ask Ss in pairs to guess the meaning of vocabulary in ex. 4. Check WC.
In pairs, ask Ss to turn around the text and ask them to answer as many questions as possible in ex. 5. They don't have to re-read the text. Ask Ss ICQ to make sure they don't check the text. Do you check your answers in the text? [NO] Do you check the answers afterwards? [YES] Monitor and help Ss for vocabulary. Ask Ss to check their answers on the text.
Put Ss into groups (initial groups). Discuss the question in ex. 6. Elicit answers from each group.
