Procedure (37-50 minutes)
-T shows Ss two real objects and asks Ss to describe them -T elicits descriptions from Ss by asking some questions: what is it? what does it looks like? what is it made of? what do you do with it? -T gives help if needed?
-T writes these questions on the board and makes CCQs to clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation. what is it? _ what does this question ask about? the object what does it looks like? _ what does this question ask about? the appearance of the object. It looks like ( round - rectangular - square - small - big, ......) _ what is it made of? the material what are the kinds of materials? made of ( wood - plastic - glass - metals,......) _ What is it for?what do you do with it? purpose
-T tells Ss that they are going to listen to four people describing their favourite gadgets. -T asks Ss to listen and read conversations and then match them to four of the pictures. -T monitors and plays the audio more than one time if needed. -T asks Ss to check in pairs. -T gives feedback with the W C.
-T focuses Ss attention on the table and points out the three columns for three different ways of describing an object. -T asks Ss to complete the table with the highlighted phrases from the conversations in exercise 1. -T asks SS to check in pairs. -T plays the recording for the Ss to listen and repeat the useful phrases. -T asks SS to repeat chorally, and individually.
-T asks Ss to look at the words and phrases in the bix in ex.3 and decide which ones can be used to complete which of the useful phrases b, c, e and f in ex.2. -T monitors and gives help if needed. -T asks Ss to check in pairs. -T gives feedback.
-T puts Ss into pairs and asks them to write a conversation describing the purpose, appearance, and material of two other objects in ex.1 which were not described. -T monitors and gives help. -After finishing writing the conversations, T asks Ss to practice them.
-T asks Ss to describe their own favourite gadget to their partners, using the useful phrases. teacher monitors and gives help and encourage SS to speak.
