Description

In this lesson, the students will be introduced to a reading text about strange but true stories.At the beginning the teacher will start with the image of a very short story which is in just two sentences using the same structure as their reading text.They will talk in their groups and pass their ideas.It will be continued by pre-teaching some vocab through a very short story to quickly get to the text.Then they will be given the reading text accompanied by some questions related to the gist.After that some other questions for specific information and then they will be presented some useful phrases to use in the last stage which is speaking In the end the teacher who was monitoring them while speaking will talk about their mistakes.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will start the class with the image of a strange story on the board.The students in their groups will be given the same picture with a very short story ,in just two sentences, to talk about in their groups. Then the teacher will get a quick feedback by this question : Do you think the story is true?

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher puts two pictures on the board and tries two elicit four words from the students through a funny story to get to the reading which is the main aim.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (3-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The teacher will give them the reading text, including four stories, with a handout which is folded. On one side of it there is a general question that the students are supposed to the the text individually and answer the question.Then they they should check their answers in their groups.To check the answer and as the feedback the teacher will ask each group the question related to each separate story.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (15-17 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students should open the folded handout and read the text carefully and say if the sentences are true or false and prepare a reason for false ones.Then they will check their answers in their groups.For the feedback one person from each group should go to the board and answer the questions.Then the teacher will ask some groups the reason for false ones.

Post-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher will pair them up and then present some useful phrases to prepare them for the speaking task.She will make an example to clarify how to use them to tell a story.They have 4 minutes tell a story.They story might be about something strange that happened to them or they have heard.Even they can invent a story in their groups.After that they should retell the story to their groups.While doing this the teacher will monitor them and take notes of their errors.After four minutes, she will stop them and write the errors on the board to think and correct them together.
