Procedure (45-55 minutes)
T will handout pictures of two families having dinner. One picture will be of a healthy family and the other unhealthy. T will ask: What are the differences? Are they healthy? Why? SS will discuss the two pictures in pairs and feedback to the class.
T will use examples of foods to describe the tastes: Bitterness, sourness, saltiness and sweetness. T will ask why are foods are sweet? What do sweet foods contain? T will also show types of diseases that can be caused from too much sugar and elicit/teach through pictures: Obesity, heart disease, diabetes
T will tell ss that they will watch a video called 'Sugar is Killing Us' and handout 4 statements for the ss to read before they watch the video. T will ask ss the predict what the video is about by only seeing the title. SS watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yda8RtOcVFU and select one statement that relays the gist of the video. SS will compare their answers in pairs then T will do whole class feedback. T will solidify gist by asking students to explain why the other statements are not correct.
SS will be given true/false statements. T will give a few minutes for students to read them and predict the answers in pairs. T will then play the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yda8RtOcVFU for ss to see if the statements are true/false. After the video has finished, ss will be asked to compare and check their answers in pairs. T will monitor and then provide an answer key on the board. If ss need further clarification for answers, this will be provided by the T.
SS will work on their own to answer the following questions: Do you live a healthy lifestyle? Why? What advice can you give to someone who eats too much sugar? T will ask students to share examples in open pairs then explain that students need to ask at least 3 people in the class and listen to their answers.
