Description

In this lesson, students will be given a reading text which they will work on throughout the lesson. They will be introduced to the topic by predicting it in the wamer stage, as they will work out several exercises later on to deeply understand the text in order to be able to follow in the next lesson as it is linked to this one.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T greets Ss and briefly discuss how they are . -T brings up lesson's topic and asks students what they think of robbery and if anybody has ever experienced a situation: Have you ever been robbed in the street? If yes , where were you and what was stolen?

Pre-Reading (3-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T projects his pre-made PPT and shows some pictures to test Ss knowledge of vocabulary. -Tteaches the necessary vocabulary if Ss are not familiar with it. -T clarrifies the words , drill pronunciation and elicit form: Robber (noun) verb: to rob pickpocket: (noun) Burglar :/ˈbɜː.ɡlər/ (noun) to burgle (verb)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T distributes the text and asks Ss to read it and match the headings to the paragraphs. T monitors -When Ss are done, T projects the texts and ask Ss to answer on the WB. * T will ask other Ss some questions like : do you agree ? in order to engage everyone -Teacher then highlights some words to check whether Ss are familiar with them , if not he clarifies them. Words : tramp - urban(noun) - overprotective(adj) - reputable(adjective) company - pickpocket (noun)

While-Reading #2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

-T distributes some folded HO for the next exercise and asks Ss to work individually. -T gives instructions: Don't unfold the paper, and asks Ss to do the exercise. Ss get 5mn to memorize information -When done , T asks students to check their answers in pairs. -After checking, T projects the next question for Ss * What advice would you give someone to avoid being robbed in your town? T hears from different Ss

Post-Reading (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to expand on what they've learned

-T asks Ss to unfold their HO and asks them to quickly read the questions. -T groups Ss -T gives instructions and sets a time limit of 3mn to answer the questions -Then Tmonitors while Ss are answering -When time's up , T asks Ss to listen to an interview of an ex burglar and checks their answers. -After the audio finishes, T projects the answer key on PPT and asks Ss to check their answers. -If there's still more time, Ss will be asked to listen again to mention more details in the same grouping. -When Ss are done they will be asked to check with the other groups before T projects the answer key on PTT
