Prepositions of time
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of prepositions of time in the context of going out
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide accuracy speaking practice in a debate in the context of asking questions
Procedure (25-35 minutes)
T asks Ss whether they have learnt prepositions of time before or not and what do they use to answer the questions beginning with (when).
I will ask the Ss some questions beginning with (when) like: When did AK party first win? When is Ramadhan this year? What time did you go to bed yesterday? When is the weather coldest? When did it last rain? When do people like to go on holiday? Then I tell Ss they must use one of the prepositions on the board in each answer and they do it in pairs. I don't check the answer immediately, but I come back to check them after Ss have done. In WC I get students' FB to answer the questions and I do error correction if necessary.
I give each student a large paper with a time expression eg, ( the evening, 2010, night....) and I ask Ss to come up and stick their words under one of the prepositions cut-ups on the board:( in, at, in) . Then I do WC FB and check answers. Then, I write on the board some time expressions as cues and Ss must use the cue word to change the time mentioned in the sentence and the prepositions will be changed as well.
I will give the Ss a practice to complete the sentences with one of the prepositions:( in, on, at) and a time expressions. They do it individually. Then Ss check each others' answers and I put the answer key on the board.
I get Ss in pairs the same questions as in lead-in and they ask and answer in pairs.
