Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Present continuous & Present Simple form

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show SS some fashion Magazines. Elicit ideas 1) Teacher will show some Magazine pictures to SS 2) Teacher will ask "Do you read any of these" and then ask "why?" 3) Elicit ideas on magazines

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Activity 1: 1) Teacher will draw SS attention to the picture. 2) Teacher will ask "What do you think it is like working for a fashion magazine?" 3) After some ideas, Teacher will check the words : Chooses articles - earn money: to see if SS know these words before they start the activity 4) Teacher will model the first question with the class 5) SS then work in pairs to answer. - "Now in your pairs decide what the 3 people in the picture do in there job"

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Activity 2: 1) Teacher will now ask SS: -"How do you think imogen is spending her day?" 2) SS now read the reading. - "Now read how she is spending her day" - "You will then talk to your partner about how she did"

Grammar Activity (6-8 minutes) • For Students to practice the grammar

Grammar Activity: 1) SS individually do grammar task 1,2,3. -Remind student that they will need the reading especially for the first grammar task. "Now individually can you of the grammar tasks 1,2,3"ON YOUR OWN" 2) Once SS finish they do peer checking -"Now compare your answers and check with your partner" During activity teacher monitors but does not interview unless SS does not understand something

Clarification (10-14 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and grammar

FEEDBACK ON GRAMMAR: - use pg 150 and interpret this to SS - Use presentation slides ( Go through present simple, continuous and contrast examples of "Stative and dynamic ( Action) verbs" 1) Do Grammar task1 and 2 feedback with whole class. Teacher goes through the correct answers together with the class. 2) Then teacher goes through slide about present simple and continuous and explains them. 3) teacher then gives the extra questions about present simple and continuous 4) Teacher goes through answers with class ____________________________________________________________________________________ 5) Teacher focuses on Grammar task 3. - Teacher goes through answers as a class 6) Teacher goes through slide about Stative and action verbs. Explains the difference and use examples. 7) Teacher gives Handout about these Verbs for SS to do 8) SS do peer checking after they finish 9) Whole class feedback. - Teacher focuses on mistakes and reminds about the the 2 verbs ;stative and dynamic verbs. -Teacher ask CCQ : IS this Temporary or permenant ?- he is riding a bike

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Practice Activity 1: 1) Teacher gets SS to predict from the two pictures (PG,35) what Carlos and Juliet are doing - "Look at the two pictures""What do you think they are doing ? What is happening?" 2) SS now do practice activity 1. 3) After, SS do some peer checking - Teacher checks SS are sure of what the word "wedding anniversary"means 4) Whole class feedback; teacher checks with the whole class

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Practice Activity 2: 1) Teacher will model the first example with the class to show that there are no set answers - A: juliet is spending her day of with her mother, family, Husband e.t.c.. 2) SS do the activity in pairs "Now in pairs can you finish of the rest of the sentences" 3) SS to some peers checking 4) Whole class feedback

Clarification on grammar point (4-6 minutes) • To check if SS have clearly understood the grammar points and the differances

Activity 3A: 1) Tell SS to do activity 3a. - "Look at activity 3a". - "I would like you to choose the correct form of the verb" 2) Teacher does the first example together as a class model 3) SS do activity - Teacher monitors notes any common errors 4) Peer checking 5) Whole class feedback

Free Practice (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Activity 3B; 1) SS decide individually if the sentences from 3a are true about them or false. 2) The false ones, SS change to true sentences about yourself 3) Get SS to write more sentences about themselves using the ideas presented in 3b
