Procedure (36-45 minutes)
I write CCTV on the board showing them a picture of it, then asking them some questions about it ( When first used and why?), ( Modern uses?),( most common place?)...etc. They work in groups and then they can check on SB page 12.
Ask SS to look at the text quickly and tell what it could be about
I will ask ss to read the text again more closely and allow them time to answer the questions. I pre-teach the words (crime), (criminal).
I ask SS to find the 5 phrases in the text that use the word "place". Have them work in pairs to guess what the phrases might mean. Then give them the 5 synonyms from the box on p.12 to match with the phrase.
I will introduce this grammar in two stages- present continuous and then stative verbs. For ex.1 I will write the first two example sentences and they will discuss in pairs why the present continuous is used. Then I refer SS to the first two points on p.13 and I ask SS to find more examples in the letters and underline them.Then I give some examples of stative verbs and ask SS why are they in the present simple not continuous and I can elicit more example from SS like: ( I like ice cream)
