Procedure (45-59 minutes)
Discuss about the house rules when the S was young and how the rules have changed now since he is old.
Will test the S understanding of the modal verbs by giving him a matching activity of verbs to their meanings.
T goes over the activity with the S and elicit the answers from him by making sentences using the TL and getting the S to guess from the meanings what the sentence implies.
We will go over the meanings together. Should- to say that something is a good idea or right thing to do. Can-to talk about different kinds of possibility i.e. ability or permission Have to-we use this if something is necessary T will ask the S for the negative forms as well as the question forms of the modal verbs. S will do an exercise on page 26 and listen for the answers through a recording. T will play again the CD and S will practice pronunciation through repeating after the sentences. Teacher will introduce other woulds for pronunciation practice e.g. could, fiend, half, hour, something, light, midnight, calm, interested/
Ask S to do a gap fill on page 30 and listen to the conversation and check his answers. Ask him which speakers he thinks are 1. making requests? 2. asking for permission?.
Give S four situations and ask him to write four-line conversations. Let him act out his best conversation.
Ask S to write the UAE rules and regulations. T will mark the essay and give back for corrections if need be.
