Description

In this lesson, Ss are focusing on a grammar about mixed conditional sentences. T gives the first task to the Ss to do and then will clarify the example models extracted from the task (MFP) and after that, Ss will have the second task and a freer talk and discuss the sentences that T shows on the slide.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show a picture of a couple on the slide about Nicola and her husband and Ss will read a very short story about them on the slide. "They met in Paris and married. Nicola is overweight now because she doesn’t exercise and eats so much food. Although they both work, They don’t have enough money to buy a car. Nicola doesn’t like her job. She’s in the hospital because of an accident. Unfortunately, she doesn’t talk with her parents."

Test #1 (5-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T gives the first filling in the blank task s to the Ss. Ss do the task by themselves and then peer check. T monitors and gets some feed back.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T extract the model examples on the WB and explains the MPF. "if they had had enough money, they would have bought a car." "if they had had enough money to buy a car, they would drive in their own car now." "if they didn't work, they couldn't pay the bills."

Test #2 (8-12 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T gives the a HO to the Ss to do in their pairs . T monitors and gets some feed back.

Free practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T shows a slide to the Ss filled with some sentences about a friend or a family member who has gone bankrupt. "Talk about a friend or a family member who has gone bankrupt. Ex: If he had listened to me, he wouldn’t have invested all of his money in car manufacturing. If he had listened to me, he would have his villa in Buyuk Ada now. If he had invested his money in construction work, he would be a millionaire (ˌmɪljəˈneər) now." Ss take some notes and talk with their partner. T monitors and gets some feed back.
