To provide product writing practice of a travel blog in the context of travel
Procedure (28-41 minutes)
Ss will see top 6 things to do in Istanbul. They will talk about these pictures to each other. They will tell when they have visited these places, what they did there, if they liked it or didn't like it. T will elicit answers from Ss and gradually will tell that these are TOP things to do in Istanbul. They will learn the meaning of Top from the context.
T will write 2 sentences on the WB. T will ask which 2 words (visit and arrive) can substitute the underlined words (went to see; came to). After elcitiing answers, T will pronounce and drill. T will write the past from of these two words. Pictures of Cairo will be projected on WB. T will ask the Ss to guess what city it is. They will tell different answers, probably they will tell Egypt. T will tell the city's name: Cairo. T will give HO to Ss, Ss will match the sentences to the pictures. Ss will work alone. They will check in Pairs. After feedback, if necessary, T will pronounce or make corrections in the pronunciation of the Ss, especially with the words, Pyramid, Cairo, River Nile, desert.
Reading for the main idea to understand the gist of the text. T will explain the EX1. Ss do not need to understand every word. They will read quickly. They will work alone. They will check answers. Reading for specific information. Ex2. Ss will work alone. They will find the specific answers. They don't need to understand every sentence. Ss will check answers in pairs. They will see the answer key on the WB. Reading for detailed information. Ex.3. Ss will read alone. They need to read carefully. They will be given enough time. They will check answers with partners. They will see the answer key on WB.
T will show an example travel blog. Ss will write a sample travel blog about the places they have visited. They will write in 5 mins. They will write in the past tense. They will not write the name of the city or place. After they finish, they will read their blogs. The Ss will guess what place or city they have been to. While they are writing, T will monitor and make corrections in their writing if there are systematic and important mistakes in their writings. When they speak about their travel blogs, T will write some words on the WB to make sure they pronounce it correctly. T will implement fluency speaking; however, important mistakes will be corrected. By this, writing, speaking and reading will be integrated.
