Description

To give clarification regarding the use of articles. In addition there will be a listening and speaking tasks. The context for the lesson will revolve around happiness and positive psychology. Create an atmosphere for a good discussion and speaking practice.

Main Aims

Give sts a refresher grammar lesson for articles;

Procedure (33-41 minutes)

Lead in (1-2 minutes) • Prepare sts for clarification

T. Will follow on the article already read by the Sts. Introduction to Articles.

Reading Task • To contextualise and introduce target language

Sts. will already have been familiar with the read from the last lesson

Highlight the target language : Exercise 1 (3-5 minutes) • Activate the Sts interest through the article table

T. Give Sts the article table. Tell them to individually fill in the table and then compare in PW. Then unfold the answer key and check as a group. Monitor. See who did incorrectly, and if necessary supply further clarification via the Sts.

Highlight the target language : Exercise 2 (4-5 minutes) • Activate the Sts interest through the article exercise

T. PW Using the underlined text have students complete the Exercise 3. Review as a group.

Highlight the target language : Exercise 4 'Happiness Is...' (4-5 minutes) • Create article sentences using Happiness Is

Create 6 sentences with Happiness Is.....using articles.

Listening Task (4-5 minutes) • Practice Listening for gist Exercise 5

Listen to recording 2.26. Have the Sts see if they understand the difference between the pronunciation. Drill the pronunciation as a group

Have Sts. look at the table in Exercise 5. (the Americans), for twenty seconds. PW. Create generalizations about these groups and dislikes of the nationality groups. The Americans like baseball. The Argentinians enjoy football.

Choose 3 countries where you would all like to live. Consider the categories in the previous exercise and share what you know. Where do you think you would be happiest. Write down and share.
