Description

In this lesson, students learn about the comparative forms of the adjective, through reading and speaking tasks . Also there are some controlled practice through completing sentences using information from the reading text .Finally they get the opportunity to practice the competitive through speaking activity.

Abc complete the information handout 1,complete the form handout 2 and Ex:7,8 and 9

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of comparative of adjectives in the context of family and friends article to chose some sentences for grammar clarification

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of compering different families from different countries and your life now and when you were a teenager .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the lesson asking the students if this article also about their family and do they have the same problem in Turkey. After that , I will divide the students into small groups . Then I will tell them to discuss and compare their family life with their group.

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

At this stage I will highlight the grammar,starting with task 1 that I have designed , this task is about filling in the gaps . First , I will give the students instruction about the task. Then I will ICQ . The instructions are : first to fill in the gaps , they have to find the answer individually from the article. Then after finding the answers, they will check their answers with their group, while they are checking the answers , I will write them on the board .

Clarification (10-20 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

To clarify the meaning of the comparative, I will give them task 2, the task is about two questions to find out the meaning of the sentences that I have given them in task 1. First, I will give the instruction about task 2 and tell them that they have to answers the questions individually next they will check their answers with their group then I will ICQ . After that I will pass the sheets to the students and while they are answering the questions, I will monitor them and if I find any mistakes, I will write them down . After that , i will listen to the students answers and discuss them . Then I will check their pronunciation by reading the sentences from the task 1. If there are any wrong with their pronunciation , I will drill it until they get it.Finally, I will give them task 3 , it is about checking different types of comparative of adjectives' form, again I will tell them the instruction and ICQ before i will hand in the worksheets after answering the task , will write their answers on the board and if there is any mistakes, I will correct and highlight them . If I have some extra time , I will give them exercise 7 page 45 from face2face students' book.

Free Practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

At this last stage , I will give them exercise 9 , it is about compering their life now with their past or about their personality and their appearance, but before this , I will regroup them then I will tell them to talk about it with their new group .
