To provide clarification, review and practice on the use of the present perfect simple tense
Subsidiary Aims

To give Ss freer speaking practice through a discussion ( fluency speaking). To provide Ss or review lexis related to the Present perfect simple tense.
Procedure (30-5 minutes)
- Give the Ss an example on a chart: The aircraft has landed. - Ask Ss to work out the rule for the verb tense. Which tense? - Ask Ss to change the sentence to a question. Has the aircraft landed? - Make it negative. The aircraft hasn't landed. -Ask Ss to give short answer. Yes, it has. No, it has not.
Focus the Ss attention on the box in the margin.
Explain that the tense is used to talk about experience happened (unspecified time in the past)
. Ask Ss about : - its form( have or has + past participle). - questions and short answers. Then clarify the form.
Ask a student to read out the example question in exercise (1),choosing one of the options. Ask the Ss to match the remaining questions. Check answers ( pair work) Ask the Ss to check the meaning of ever.
Ask the Ss to underline the possible responses,then check answers. Ask the Ss to say the questions and answers aloud (pair work)
Ex; 3 Use time expressions from the box to complete sentences (a -d) then check answers . Ask Ss what is different about the last sentence.( the tense of the verb). Ask the Ss which of the twelve possible sentences are true for them .
Put the Ss in pairs, tell them who will be student A, and who will be student B. Ask them to write down the questions they need to ask (A/B) to find out the missing information. Ask the Ss to check their answers. Monitor and take note of any errors which may need particular attention later.
