Subsidiary Aims
-
To give the Ss controlled & semi-controlled practice of simple present yes/no questions. To consolidate & give Ss the opportunity to practice free time vocabulary.
Procedure (37-45 minutes)
The teacher asks the students about their best friend, and elicits answers: "Who is your best friend? Is s/he in Istanbul? Do you see her? At weekends? "
The teacher highlights target vocabulary and Simple Present tense (affirmative, negative, questions and short answers using a few examples).
Teacher tells students that using the prompts in the handout, they are going to talk in pairs about what they do with their friends (8-10 minutes). Teacher models the target structure and puts students in pairs. Teacher monitors the activity, and helps students who need language support. Teacher notes down examples of correct and wrong language.
Teacher elicits answers, but does not make immediate correction while the student is speaking. Teacher puts examples of correct and incorrect language on the board and examines the language, correcting the mistakes together with students.
