In this lesson, T will provide Sts the necessary materials to improve their reading skills, T will focus on skimming and scanning. Main topic of the lesson is ''My Home Town'' and it'll further help Sts to describe and discuss about their home town and point out some important vocabulary that'll guide them through their daily life.

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about Three Cities

  • To provide practice of Words in the context of My Home Town

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T talks about where he is from and shows a picture of his home town. the point is to get students familiar with the main topic of the day " My Home Town" Sts work in pairs and let them predict and what they see in the picture. T focuses on words that Ss might have problems pronouncing and makes sure to drill it before going further. such words that will surely arise are; beaches, famous, busy, interesting, mountains, parks and quiet. SS work in pairs to point out some pictures from the power point presentation (appendix 1) in order to get a clear idea about some basic words like mountains, lakes, parks, river, sea. Do a quick drilling session and point the MPF.

Prediction Task/ Pre-Tech Vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Sts will discuss in current groups and discuss about what they see in the picture/text from cutting edge (appendix 2). - T introduced some key words at the introduction, this will make it easier for them to point out some vital details about the pictures presented. Pre-Teach Vocabulary After the discussion, students will play a quick game of ''PICORD'' (appendix 3). Meaning: Pictures and Words. Sts will be divided in two groups, team red and team blue. Both teams will get pictures posted on the board such as; lake, mountains, river, sea, town, big city, small city. words will be placed on the table. first team to put all words and pictures together wins the task. I will present a quick demo and provide some ICQ's like: ''what are we going to do?'' ''how do you win?'' ''how do you match the words and pictures?''. Winner gets a reward. Tea maybe :)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T presents three images of three different cities and three different individuals. (appendix 2/ cutting edge) T asks ss to find out where all the people are from. '' Clear instructions: DO NOT READ EVERYTHING. YOU HAVE ONE MINUTE Reading for Specific Info T presents a new task. the task is to make students practice scan reading. Separate HO will be given (appendix 4). Sts will answer questions a-f by looking at the pivtures and captions for each place called kingston. At this point sts shouldnt read the whole text, just go through and answer the questions.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

At this stage, students are ready to read through the sentences. T focuses on words students find difficult again and correct/drill the words for clarification such as; beaches, famous, busy, interesting, lake, river. TELL STUDENTS TO KEEP THE TEXT AND READ AT HOME. TASK (appendix 5) HO Ask Sts to find out which of the three sentences are in the wrong place. Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Sts pair up again and discuss about their home towns. Get some stories amongst sts who are willing to share. Give Sts vocabulary list from cutting edge to take home to study at their free time. (appendix 6)
