After 2 mins speaking, students are encouraged to share their similarities.
The teacher writes KFC and draws a K-W-L chart, and asks what students know about KFC. After eliciting their answers the teacher writes them down under "K" column. Then, asks what they would like to know about KFC, and again writes the responses down under "W" column. In the meantime the teacher conveys the key phrases, namely serve sb sth and recipe through student responses.
The teacher asks students to do the gist task of the text: Read the article and put the events in order. Students skim through the article and do the task in 3 mins, then they peer check the answers which is followed by teacher's whole class feedback. Then, the teacher gives whole class feedback. At the end the T refers to the "L" column of the chart and check whether the things learnt match with the "W" column.
The teacher groups the class in fours. And asks them to find the turning points in the article in 2 mins. After giving feedback on the turning points, the teacher asks students to identify themselves with Harland Sanders (the founder of KFC) and to discuss in their groups about what they would do if they were in his shoes. After 5-mins talking interesting answers will be shared in the classroom.
