To give Ss practice in speaking about AIDS and whether it is curable or preventable.
Procedure (22-37 minutes)
Look at reading from previous lesson 'World Health Organisation'. Ask Ss: (1) What does the World Health Organisation hope for in 2020 and (2) What are health workers plans for cure and prevention of Polio? Show slide with targeted sentences: "Hopes are high that..." and "Health workers will be..." Discuss in pairs the answers. FB. WC Match future tenses with the actions on WB, Future perfect and Future continuous and then in PW match the sentences to the actions. FB
WC Look at the meaning of future continuous and future perfect and the form: Future continuous: Will + be + verb -ing Future perfect: Will + have + verb -ed
Ask WC: What is the situation for AIDS? is it curable/preventable? They will read through paragraph on AIDS, first only read for 1min. Then complete in PW using future perfect and future continuous. FB - students share answers on board.
Looking at time phases "By the year..." and "Over the next twenty years..." 2mins Which future form are they used with? Look at Vision 2020 goals: what will they be doing over the next few years? What will they have achieved by 2020? PW Answer questions using future perfect and future continuous: (By 2020 they will...) and (Between 2010 and 2020 they will...) FB
What are your goals for the future? Thinking about job, family, health, etc. S-S then PW Monitor and help with form and accuracy. Take note of errors. Errors on WB for delayed error correction.
