Procedure (45-45 minutes)
As lead-in give them a piece of news tell them to skim through the text like they read a news article. Then Teacher: "In my opinion the violence was the referee's fault" What do you think?
Teacher: "In my opinion the violence was the referee's fault" What do you think? Possible answers: "I agree with you/ I disagree/" " I think ..." so the conversation will be about agreement and disagreement.
I just write the sentences they used during the conversation "In my opinion, ......" "If you ask me..... " "Personally I think...." on the other side of the WB write "I completely agree" "I don't agree at all" "I think/ don't think you're right" *** I SHOULD ASK THEM TO TELL ME THE SENTENCES AND HELP THEM TO MAKE THE SENTENCES. THEN I JUST ADD THE ALTERNATIVES*** CCQ: the first group of phrases: Is it a fact? (Maybe) Does it mean that everybody should have the same opinion? (No) Is it 100% true? (No) the second group of phrases: would you say this to your friend? (yes) would you say this to your boss? (No) Form: tell the students "what comes after each phrase ? (subject + verb....) so the whole statement. CCQ: can I use continuous form to express agreement or disagreement? (No) Pronunciation: Drill the model sentences.
show them the envelopes tell them: "Get these envelope, open them and try to match the news with my own opinions (in group)" "then you're going to tell the news to your group and the other should answer that" ICQ: are you going to do it individually? (No) how many people in each group tell the news? (everybody) how many people express his/her opinion? (everybody) *** so all of you should tell the news and express the opinion
After they're finished with the practice, tell them "collect the blue cut outs put them in the envelope and hand it to me." this time number the students and regroup them. now they have to tell the news to their group mates and the other should express their own opinion.
give students 2 minutes to write their own opinions about their favorite music (It could be changed according to their favorite subject) then tell them "stand up and go and find a partner to tell him/her your opinions. they should express their feeling if they agree or disagree."
I take some notes of their errors and then ask them to sit down. write the errors on the board and tell them to correct them.
