Main Aims

  • To focus on the writing practice of an article in the context of safety

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of language used for giving advice in the context of how to keep the things safe

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Write the word safety on the board like a word map ask Ss "who's got children here ?" what did you do to keep a place safe for them? write their related ideas

Exposure (15-15 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Give Ss the HO 1 & 2 -tell students: it's an article but there's a problem. (want students to answer the question) -give them a minute to divide the different paragraphs in HO 2 -ask them how did they understand the beginning of each paragraph? then write the signposting words in HO 1 - signposting section (PW) -Now that students have the paragraphs clear and they can spot the expressions for giving advice (PW) -in pairs find the expressions for giving advice and write them in the related column (2 min) -in pairs find the expressions for reason and write them in the related column (1 min)

Preparation (5-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Give each pair a title and want them to write their ideas on HO2 how do they start their introduction and what tips do you suggest for your title write one sentence for each

Productive Task(s) (18-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

give them 10 minutes to write change their ideas from sentence to paragraphs [music in background] monitor them while they're reading and notice their noticeable errors. [music stops] tell them pay attention to the errors and want them to correct each. then tell them find these errors in your writing and fix it give them another 5 minutes to organize their text and stick their writings on the wall

Feedback (4-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

After all the writings are stuck on the wall tell the students to hang around the class and choose title for each article ask them to write their titles on a paper then share their ideas with the other classmates the feedback should be given by the writers of each article
