Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To revise letters, remember people's names, pre-teach vowel/consonant for a/an and introduce the topic

Write the alphabet and "vowels:" and "consonants:" on the board before the lesson begins. Pre- teac vowel and consonant by giving two examples and eliciting the rest from students. Ask CCQs on vowel/ consonant. Write "Say the vowels in your name." on the board. Get students to say the vowels in their names in pairs. Then repeat the same procedure with consonants. Write "Today's Lesson:" on the board and spell "objects" Point out its meaning (things) on the board. Then add A/An and Singular Plural

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a situation.

Show your bag which contains an apple, a dictionary, a book, a pen, a pencil, an umbrella, a mobile, a notebook. First ask them to guess "what is in my bag?" . Write "What's this?" on the board.Then pick the objects one by one and ask the Ss "What is this?" put the answers on the board under two sections (a/an)

Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice by doing ex. 6, 7 on page 10 of Face to Face Starter Ss Bk

Get students to match the words to the things in photo B in pairs (ex. 6 on page 10, Face2face Starter Ss. Bk., then get the students to pronounce the words correctly by repeating after the teacher (an apple, a dictionary, a book, a pen, a pencil, an umbrella, a mobile, a notebook.) Focus on the correct stress and point out that dictionary is 3 syllables not 4. Get students to practice more by doing ex.7. Demonstrate with a student and get the others to ask and answer questions like "What's number 1?" "A bag" in pairs.

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

point out the two sections on the board under headings a and an. Remind them what vowel and consonant mean, and then get them to do ex.8 in pairs then check answers. Ss can then do ex. 9 as practice in pairs. They will fill in the gaps with a or an.

Controlled practice (5-6 minutes) • to practice names of everyday objects

Focus students on the photo of Sally. Say "What's Sally's job?" Elicit a teacher or secretary. Say "More Objects/Things" Get students to match the words to things in exercise 2a in pairs, get them to pronounce the words correctly by repeating after the teacher.(ex2b), get them to find other things in the photo in pairs.

Controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • to practice names of objects

Say "Look at the photo for one minute." Wait for 30 seconds. Put students into three groups. Collect the papers and say "Now, think, remember and with your group write the objects on a piece of paper in two minutes." Check which group has more words and say "Good job!"

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To introduce and practice singular/plural in the context of everyday objects

Show the students a pen and two pens. Ask "what's this? and "What are these?" Elicit a pen and two pens.Write singular/plural on the board and elicit where a pen / two pens go. Get them to complete Exercise 4, by writing the missing letters. Go over the pronunciation by getting them to repeat after the teacher.

Highlight • to draw students' attention to the target language

Point out the different forms of plurals. Go over the table. Ask CCQs "like boys, one or more?" "a watch, one or more?" "babies, s or ies?"

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Get them to do ex6. in pairs and then check as a whole class. Show them a wallet, an ID card and a lipstick. Get them to roleplay a policeman or woman and a civil person. This is the subway/metro. The police officer (Student A) asks "Now, what's in your bag?" Student B says "a wallet, an ID card, a book, etc." Monitor as they practice. Help with vocabulary. Then get them to switch roles.

Controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • to practice names of everyday objects and singular plural forms

Hand out Pair and Group Work : Other activities 1(p. 96 St. Bk.) Say "Look at the Picture. Write the words and the number of people and things with your partner." Demonstrate the first exercise "two tables" Then get them to practice in pairs. Check with the whole class. Assign Vocabulary plus 1 Things in A Room as homework.
