Description
In this lesson, types of adverbs will be examined. The focus of the lesson is adverbial vocabulary. In the beginning, a short story will be read and the students will decide a title for it. Following the story sets of questions will be answered from the Ss text book relating to the focus point understanding adverbs. Finally, Ss will write their own short story about a personal account of a stressful or difficult situation they had experienced before, using adverbs, and past simple/past continuous tenses.

Main Aims

To provide clarification for types of adverbial vocabulary and their word order.
Subsidiary Aims

To clarify the difference between an adverb and an adjective. Not every adverb end in -ly. Their word order depends on which type the adverb is. They modify verbs, nouns, or other adverbs.
Procedure
Stage 1 vocabulary booklet and a short story • Learning adverbial vocabulary
A vocabulary booklet should be used to help the S during the given reading and writing tasks.
Stage 2 • Warm up new adverbial vocabulary then the type of adverbs and their positions in a sentence.
Listen to a recording from the S's text book and match the verb to an appropriate adverb. Word form verb+ly but not always. Example sentences for each type of adverbial.
Stage 3 • To be able to write a personal story. Taking care of the usage of adverbs in appropriate order and forming the past simple and past continuous tenses correctly.
Writing a personal story and then discussing with a peer.
