Description

In this lesson, students will practice writing using expressions that will be given as tasks in the class, they will write in the form of a respond to a letter that they are going to read as a gist reading.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a letter in the context of catching up with a friend

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice reading to build up for the writing task

Procedure

Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask the students what their previous lessons' topic is. And then I will show HO1 and tell them to fold the paper just from where the intro is and also show them while explaining, and hand HOs to them and let them guess what is it?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

pair the students and tell them to unfold the paper and read it to find out what is it telling? and talk to your partner about it.

error correction (6-7 minutes) • to provide students with a task to correct errors

group the students into 3 -4 (depending on the class' attendance) tell the students to read the first sentence of the email and tell me if they have noticed something. tell them to correct the errors they find with their groups.

Useful Language (4-4 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

give the students the material HO2 and tell them to find the sentences that have the same meaning with the material. check answers by asking each group to tell me the sentences they find. (I'm assuming that there will be 3 groups, so each group answers each sentence, if there is more groups, then I'll check answers by turns including the whole class) ask the students to focus on what Anna wants Sue to answer.

useful language (6-6 minutes) • provide students with useful expressions that will help in the upcoming task

give students HO3 and ask them to fill the blanks in the three parts of the exercise, and again ask the three groups to answer one part of the exercise and check their correctness

Productive Task(s) (10-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

ask the students to focus on what Anna wants Sue to answer, and ask them to be Sue and write a respond letter to Anna.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-9 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

pair the students and ask them to exchange their respond letters and check for errors and missing parts. I will be monitoring to check if any there is any mistakes, if there is a student who needs some help or has a question.
