Past Simple & Present Perfect Simple Lesson

Description

In this lesson students will learn and practice past simple and present perfect simple tense aspects. It will be done with some exercises designed to test this knowledge.

Materials

Abc Practice exercises.
Abc Powerpoint presentation

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of past simple and present perfect simple.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in the context of famous siblings.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Ask questions about Adidas and Puma (which they prefer and why.Tell them my choice). - Show the reading and tell them to discuss in pairs. - Elicit what they remember.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- Give them Ex-8a tell them to first work alone. -Check in groups. -Will go through class and check if correct and discuss mistakes.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Give out 'active grammar' section but only 1 per group. -Get them to decide the rules for awhile. -Give answer key.

Clarification (4-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-Show students the answers to Ex-8a on PPT. -Tell them to discuss the answers using the rules they learned. -Give example if necessary.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Make 3 groups. -Show bubbles from Ex-9. -One bubble per group they can discuss answers. -Ask each group what answer they decided on.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-Put students back in 4 groups. -Give Ex-10 to work alone. -Check in groups. -Send out 1 person from each group to check answer outside door then come back to join not their own but other groups to discuss answers.

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Pair them up. -Give them Ex-11 -Ask them to tell me what they discussed.
