Main Aims

To provide Ss with practice in listening for gist and detail through a text about different people's experience in job interviews.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To introduce Ss to some colloquial phrases related to job interviews. To give Ss practice in speaking for fluency.
Procedure (41-58 minutes)
Show Ss a picture of 4 people waiting for a job interview. Ask Ss what they think the 4 people in the picture might be doing? Explain the context of the lesson will be about job interviews.
Write the names of the speakers in the listening exercise on the WB Explain to Ss that we will be completing a listening task about these people.
Hand out material to students (HO1). Point to the pictures on the hand out. Tell them they are going to listen to these 5 people talk about their job interviews. Tell them to listen to see how many of the people got the job. Check answers
Get Ss to refer to part b of the HO. Tell Ss to read the questions in part b. Play the recording whilst pausing after each person speaks to that Ss have time to write their answers. Peer Check then WC check.
Refer students to section c on the HO. Get them to read the questions Ask them as a group what a colloquial phrase is? (an informal phrase) Play the recording, pausing between speakers to allow students time to do the task. Peer check check answers WC
Hand out HO2 to Ss Ask students to work in pairs and discuss there personal experiences about job interviews from the questions provided in the text.
