Description

In this lesson SS will learn about structure of reported speech through guided discovery of reading a text. SS will briefly warmed up, then they are going to read a text in which reported verbs used. Finally, SS will listen to a radio report as a sub task which completes the main task (grammar:reported verbs)

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Reported speech in the context of family

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about Radio interview in the context of hurricane

Procedure

stage1: Lead in(warm up) (2-4 minutes) • Test Ss' knowledge about new topic

T- asks SS some questions about reported speech SS- make some reported sentences T- forms two groups in the class SS- carry out the tasks in a group

Stage 2 (3-6 minutes) • clarification of new grammar

T- gives some hand outs to SS in which some reported sentences are written T- asks SS to underline the reported verbs in the sentences SS- work individually to underline reported verbs T- asks usages of reported verbs and clarify some of them if needed

stage 3 (4-6 minutes) • Error correction and controlled practice

T-gives some fill in gaps hand outs SS- work in pairs and do some fill in gaps exercises SS- come to the board and write the answers T- checks the answers and have some clarification if needed

Stage 4:lead in (3-5 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic

T- asks some questions about the new topic SS- tell their ideas about the new topic T- writes some new vocabularies that SS may have some difficulties during the listening SS- listen for the first time for a gist

stage 5 (10-13 minutes) • to practice listening for specific information

T- gives some fill in gap hand outs to SS SS- listen for the second time (part A) and fill the gaps T- gives some more hand outs to SS about part B of listening SS- listen to part B and answer to questions in pairs SS- come to the board and write the answers
