Abc a video clip about a news item about a hurricane

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of TV news

  • To provide clarification of natural disaster in the context of news

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

teacher gets to the class showing a video clip about a natural disaster like a hurricane, asking them what they have learned or seen about the incident

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

exposure is provided by watching the video clip

Highlighting (6-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

teacher takes feedback revising students sentences using some of the target words. he elicits some of the words and puts them all on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher follows the steps of teaching vocabulary (MPF) to teach the words

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

exercise A on page 120 and all it's procedures and steps are used to provide ss with controlled practice. the same is done for exercise A on page 122 and 123

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

conversation on page 120 is used as a model and drilling on conversation followed by having ss make an analogues conversation is the personelization step

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students imagine that they want to attend a story telling contest. they try to make a story about a natural disaster and make it as interesting as possible. they tell their stories to the class and the class chooses the best one.
