Procedure

Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To get the students involved into the topic and prepare for the presentation of grammar

teacher presents a short story about Mark and gives Handouts to define what the main topic is I would like to introduce you my friend Mark. He is from New Zealand but he would prefer to live in Kiev. He has been staying in Kiev for 3 months. He would like to open his own company and build houses there. He wouldn't mind working as a journalist and he has been working on his own investigation since 2014. He would like to hope one day he can deliver news to people. teacher asks students to find something which is used a lot in this text (would) and reminds present perf cont grammar

Building context (4-5 minutes) • To introduce the topic deeper and bring the students speaking practice

teacher asks students to discuss if they would like to be a journalist or not they work in pairs teacher asks to underline all the would words in the text Change pairs and ask do discuss if they have a friend who would prefer to work somewhere else

material presentation (8-12 minutes) • to clarify meaning, form and pronunciation of would

teacher says that as you guessed we are going to talk how and where to use would we use it when we imagine a situation or action when we offer and invite being polite with like, love, prefer to express preferences teacher presents the form on the board positive negative and question teacher presents pronunciation with contracted forms and drills it with the whole class teacher hands out exercise 1 and offers to replace d with had or would students use peer checking teacher asks to make a story about Mark shorter

Practice (7-9 minutes) • To practice presented material and develop accuracy

teacher gives ex 2 to fill in the gaps students work individually then listen to the recording to check their answers to speak more students are offered to discuss the questions in ex 4, they work in pairs teachr monitors and helps out

Production (7-8 minutes) • to provide freer practice when usinf would with personal preferences and in a polite manner

teacher gives ex 36.1 and asks students to write down their own answers and after discuss with a partner teacher gives every group some situation and they have to work out what to say you are in a cafe and want to order some food you are at the metro station and you need to ask direction you are in the shop trying to find a book you want to offer some coffee or tea to your guests you are in the shop and you cant find a jacket of your size the students discuss what they have to say in groups teacher monitors

Feedback and error correction (4-5 minutes) • to provide feedback and correct errors

teacher corrects errors students make and drills pronunciation one more time
