Procedure (48-60 minutes)
Display image 1 Ask students the below; What are the people in the image doing? Why? Elicit answers for 'healthy lifestyle' and other vocabulary items such as lose weight, get fit, exercise, go to the gym, brainstorm their ideas on WB clarify- healthy and healthy lifestyle
PW - 4 mins T demonstrates first match on the WB Ex 1, STS match words 2-10 with the picture Students check answers in pairs WC feedback Clarify MFP during feedback answers: 2c) ef) 4j) 5b) 6d) 7g) 8i) 9e) 10a) T displays below Q on WB: Which of these phrases match a healthy or unhealthy lifestyle? STS discuss in pairs WC feedback
Individual/PW - 2 mins Display text titles on the WB STS read text for gist and in pairs choose the best title for the text Top tips for a healthy heart - clarify meaning of top tips Ways to stop smoking Top tips to lose weight WC feedback T to clarify meaning of top tips clarify pron of disease, grams and portions (turkish cognates)
Individual - 4 mins Ex 2a, - STS read the text and answer Q's 1-7 STS check answers in pairs WC feedback and ask sts for example when giving an answer answers: 1. heart disease 2. 20 (one every three mins) 3. no, they don't 4. the uk 5. one gram 6. at least 5 7. no, it isn't
PW Ex 2b STS read article again and find four things that are good for your heart and four things that are bad for your heart. WC feedback and STS provide examples
PW - 2 mins In pairs, T asks the below Q's: Which tips do you feel are most important? WC feedback on a couple of answers from students
Group work (3s or 4s) - 8 mins In groups, STS pretend to play doctor and diagnose the patient. Teacher to demonstrate first on the whiteboard - show image of patient and ask the WC what is their problem? What can they stop doing? What can they do to have a healthy lifestyle? 4-5 images around the room, 2 mins per image Each group take it in turns to look at the images and discuss the above questions.
