Procedure (30-45 minutes)
I start the class with pantomime,so they will understand about the context Then, i will ask them some questions like : What is your favorite food ? Do you eat at home or at the restaurant? These questions will prepare the learners to go through the next stage which is the listening task .
First , I tell them about the context in that there is a woman and a man and they are at the restaurant. Now they listen to a conversation from their book.In this regard, they go through the listening once for answering some questions in that they have a list of food and drink, they have to cross extra points which have not been mentioned in the listening. Now they know the context and the people acting in the listening .The second task for listening is to write the name of the person talking or ordering.
in order to highlight the target language, the learners are given some handouts. These handouts are exactly the sentences in the book in the listening task. I divide the learners into 2 groups. They have to find a person whose handout matches his handouts in another group, then putting the sentences in the order. The latter activity is done by the whole class.
I show the model sentence to the learners : I would like some tea. What would you like to eat ? Meaning : i will clarify the meaning of would like .It is another form of i want / i like but in a polite way. Form : By the use of the same sentence model, i tell them about the form. sub + would + like + to + verb (-) sub + would + not + like + to + verb (?) what would you like to eat ? Pronunciation : i show the contraction of i would like : i`d like and its pronunciation, besides, the produced sound in mixing /d/ and /l/ in would like
they watch a short movie and it would be a good review of the function to get ready for role playing .After the film,They are in their own groups and start writing about their own and favorite menu, then one of them takes the role of a waiter and other students are customers. They start having role play and I monitor them to see if they use the target language.if they need help I can be a customer in their group and help them. The learners also change their group to share their ideas.
