Procedure (40-57 minutes)
draw a table on the board with these headings: stores, places to go in your free time, services, places for sport, places for families to go, places good for teenagers to go after school.etc. Ss are given a few minutes to write as many as words they know for each category. teacher elicits and pre-teaches the words by repetition and boarding. (mostly vocabularies that they've got on the map page.54) work on stress pattern of compound nouns like part 3
Ask Ss to look at the map and name the places they find on it and discuss what's the place for? model it like exercise A in part 1. cover part B and then do the role play.
Ask Ss to look at the conversation again in order to underline the woman's first question which is " is there ....?" do the boarding and ask for her 2nd question which is " are there ....". the Ss are supposed to use the model and complete part C.
Have Ss's attention and refer them to the grammar box on p.55 to listen to more examples and elicit the differences between " is there ...?" and "are there...?" and the kind of words that they are followed by. work on the way to answer them as well and focus on the form. is there + a/an + singular noun? are there + any + plural noun? yes there is/are. no there isn't/aren't. yes there is one... yes there are some....
name different places on the map and ask for their location. the teach the location expressions using the map and some extra pictures if you'd provided before and do the boarding Ss are supposed to cover exercise A in part 2 using the map. (assign some of them to save your time and work on some extra practices on p.145).
ask Ss to make short conversations like exercise A about the places on the map in pairs. part B on p.55: ask Ss for the possible options to fill in gaps. listen and complete. then Ss are supposed to ask their partner the questions about her neighborhood.
role play card are given to each pair of the Ss and they have 5 to 7 minutes time to make a phone call. role A: you've moved to a new house recently. your friend calls you to ask about your neighborhood. describe it to her and answer her/his questions. role B: your friend has recently moved to a new house but you haven't visited her new house yet. call her and ask what his/her neighborhood is like and about the places there.
