Description

In this lesson, ss will review should have past participle to direct criticism towards some incidents happened at some time in the recent past. This class was outlined in accordance with Test-Teach-Test requirements. To serve this aim, background knowledge of the ss will be called back and a clarification will be provided. Following these stages, a semi-controlled practice will be given to check the knowledge of the ss. Freer practices are also designed to build a healthy learning environment in which ss will be given chance to improve their speaking skills.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will hang some pictures on the wall. These pictures will be used to link previous class to the present one. Teacher will show some pictures and try to elicit information to set the lesson context and engage students. Answers of the students will be expected to lead lesson to a new direction- main target language- should have participle. Embrassment Criticism

First Set (Diagnostic) (8-10 minutes) • To test learners' current knowledge of and ability to use the language and idebtify what the issues are

T will give instructions and set the task. T says," There are some sentences related to the previous reading texts. I would like you to fill in the gaps with should or should not. You have to study on your own." T distributes handouts and monitors students as they are on their task. Then t invites ss to compare their sentences with their mates. As an answer key, a listening track will be played and ss will be instructed to check their answers. Then ss will work on pairs to match the statements in exercise 1 to the two stories about politicians.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T gives instructions before setting the task. A guided study handout will be given to the ss. In this task, ss are supposed to study individually. Following their completion, they will be asked to compare their answers in pairs. T will collect answers of the ss to give a WCF.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will be given a reading text about a colonel and asked to make some critical remarks on his war strategies. Ss will be asked to read the text individually and suggested to pay attention to some key words which might indicate a critical attitude. While ss are on their task, t will monitor them and try to identify any error to provide feedback at the end of the activity.Then ss will be asked to compare their results. Following this, t will ask ss to share their opinions.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide oral practice focused on using the langauge accurately

T will give instructions and set the task. Ss, in pairs, will be asked to think of five small mistakes they have made in their life. They will talk to a partner about them and say what they should or shouldn't have done. Following their completion, ss will be asked to share their mistakes with their classmates. Only voluntary students will be invited to share their mistakes with their classmates.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide freer oral practice and use the language productively

T will hand out one picture to each students. T will explain that their picture shows something that happened to them at some time in the past. A few minutes will be given to the ss to think of the story behind their picture. Then t will divide class into pairs and tell them that one of the ss will tell their story. Their partner is expected to be a very annoying friend who always criticizes. Ss will take their turn and be encouraged to make their story as interesting or funny as possible. If time permits, there might be an extension in the play.
