Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of time linkers in the context of story telling about good luck and bad luck

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a story telling in the context of bad luck

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the Ss the pic of Bosporus Bridge and elicit the word "link" through question about the purpose of the bridge.

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Ask Ss to work in pairs and to identify the one wrong option from each sentence. First sentence will be done as an example. Then give instructions and check through ICQs.. Give students 3-4 minutes to complete the task. Tell them to check with another pair and discuss why it is wrong. Take w/c FB.

Teach (8-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

During FB ask Ss to answer and give the reason. Use CCQs to ensure that they understand the meaning and the usage of linking words. Clarify any confusions. Check and drill the pronunciation of the words in speech.

Test #2 (6-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ask the Ss to complete exercise 2 with time linkers given in the language box by using "someone who". Check the answers with the answer key on the board. In case of any common mistake, clarify.

Free practice (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Show the picture on the board, tell the class to look at the picture and make up another bad luck story in groups of 4 then share their stories with the class.
